Namal Knowledge City Vision
The vision of Namal Knowledge City is to trigger innovation for the benefit of the society, by establishing high quality education facilities of international standard with the help of international partner, the University of Bradford, UK and the national partner LUMS, Lahore. This innovation will be a fundamental driver for the economic growth and societal welfare. Namal Knowledge City is a unique venture integrating education with employability. It aims to deliver a distinctive learning experience within an inspiring physical and intellectual environment underpinned by the concepts and practice of diversity, employability, enterprise and sustainable development across the curricula. Students will be equipped with enhanced skills and confidence to progress in the workplace and with the passion to continue learning.
One of the main objectives is to strategically develop sustainable research. NKC aims to nurture a healthy research environment by exploiting its partnerships with UoB, LUMS and other esteemed research active institutes which will assist in retaining high quality staff and attract quality students.
NKC will seek out opportunities to engage collaboratively with employer organisations and key strategic partners across the public and private sectors and will strengthen its links with business through effective knowledge transfer.
NKC aims to provide robust, innovative and supportive IT and administrative services and system alongside processes which are adaptive to change and which support and enable flexible modes of learning and working. NKC will ensure to deliver professional and customer-focused services and a high standard of communication, governance and decision making through effective management structure and committees.The development of NKC will be completed in three phases. The journey of NKC started with the inauguration of Namal College in Phase-1 offering short certificate courses and Diploma in higher education programmes. Undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in various disciplines will be launched in Phase-2. One of the main activities of Phase-2 will be Namal College staff development for the effective delivery of UoB’s courses. All Namal college academic staff will equipped with the UoB’s PGCHEP training programme whereas staff without doctoral level qualification will be registered into PhD under extra mural programme at the UoB. Academies for professional qualifications and links with industrial partners will be established to promote knowledge transfer at local and national level. One of the major milestones during Phase-2 will be to apply for a University Charter in 2014. This will be followed by establishing a technology park, enterprises and commercial areas during Phase-3 commencing 2015.
Location and Facilities
Namal College is built on land generously donated by the people of Mianwali District. Located a short distance outside the city of Mianwali on the main Highway, the college is set on a gentle slope of a hill in beautiful countryside on the edge of Namal lake. Phase 1 of the project and the first of a complex of buildings has now been completed. The two storey building, covering an area of 60,000 sq. ft. houses the college administration, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Electrical Engineering departments together with their laboratories. Phase II of the construction programme will begin shortly and include Staff and Student Accommodation premises and research laboratories.
The University of Bradford
Namal College is an Associate College of the University of Bradford, one of the leading Universities in United Kingdom. It specialises in the Technical and Engineering disciplines, and has a history of developing and delivering high quality and demand driven degree programmes. Bradford has extensive experience in setting up vocational training professional courses in different parts of the World. Bradford University will work closely with Namal College in designing the courses and curriculum, in ensuring Quality Assurance, training and development for the Faculty and advising on matters related to academic administration. Namal Education Foundation and Imran Khan
As a philanthropist and a Member of Parliament in the district, Imran has, under the umbrella of the Namal Education Foundation, undertaken a number of initiatives to address the multiple economic and social challenges faced by the area. These challenges include driving improvements in literacy, community organization, health, access to credit, encouragement of corporate investment, and education. Imran Khan has the experience and drive to make Namal College a success story. In 1996, Imran, opened the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMCH) Cancer Hospital in memory of his mother who had suffered from the disease. Today SKMT is one of the leading institutions for free Cancer Treatment in the world and has received international recognition. Imran is also amongst some leading World celebrities who donate their talents to advocate for children on behalf of UNICEF as a Special Representatives. He has used his high profile in cricket to support health and immunisation programmes in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand. In December 2005 Imran was appointed as Chancellor of the University of Bradford in the UK, acting as an ambassador for the University in the UK and overseas. The Chancellor awards degrees but also is important as a role model and in helping raise aspirations and awareness of educational opportunities. The University's first Chancellor was Harold Wilson, Labour Prime Minister of Britain.
