Lahore chehlum procession blast kills 7 LAHORE: At least seven people including four police were killed and various others injured in a powerful explosion in a mourning procession which was near its concluding point at near Kerbala Gamay Shah at Bhat Gate, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The injured are being shifted to hospital. According to eye-witnesses, the blast occurred soon after azan of Maghrib prayer near Urdu Bazaar Chowk at Lohari Chowk.

The blast was so powerful that its bang was heard far and wide and the intensity of blast was so overpowering that it broke windowpanes of buildings.

Rescue sources said at least 37 people were injured at Lohari Chowk blast that sent people breaking into stampede. Some injured people are in critical condition.

Relief teams including Rescue 1122 and ambulances have arrived on the blast site. Police put security cordon around the blast site.

Hospital sources said at least 8 people have been rushed to Mayo Hospital. Emergency has been imposed at other hospitals including Ganga Ram Hospital and Services Hospital.

According to Rescue sources, the blast occurred in a vehicle with government number plate; the vehicle was packed with explosives.

District Emergency Officer Dr Ahmed confirmed the killings of at least seven people.

According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Aslam Tareen, at least four policemen were killed in the blast, adding no one is seriously injured in the blast.

Also, Lahore District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahad Khan Cheema confirmed the killings of seven people.

MS Mayo Hospital said at least seven people were killed and 47 others injured in mourning procession at Lohari Chowk blast.
